Safer Spaces for Two-Spirit People

This course is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion by promoting understanding and support for Two-Spirit Indigenous people. By exploring anti-oppression frameworks and Indigenous worldviews, this comprehensive e-learning experience offers participants the knowledge and tools necessary to create safer, more inclusive spaces. Participants will delve into the rich histories and roles of Two-Spirit individuals within their communities, gaining insight into how colonization disrupted these roles and imposed rigid gender binaries.  This course is ideal for anyone committed to advancing social justice, fostering inclusivity, and honouring the diverse identities within Indigenous communities. Through interactive modules, reflective questions, and culturally responsive activities, learners will appreciate the natural diversity in gender and sexual identities, recognize the importance of the term "Two-Spirit," and understand its role in reconnecting Indigenous people with their traditional teachings. Participants will also explore stories, like the Wabanaki creation story, that highlight the balance and integration of energies within individuals.  This course is designed to accommodate various learning styles, offering a comprehensive and engaging experience. Each section features a video presentation that guides you through the material, accompanied by concise summaries that encourage active participation. For those who prefer auditory learning, audio files are available for download, especially for longer activities.  Upon accessing your course link, you'll find a workbook designed to enhance your learning journey. It’s recommended to print this workbook, which includes reflective prompts for you to respond to, whether through writing or drawing, depending on your preference. Additionally, a variety of activities are included to further enrich your understanding. To support your ongoing learning journey, a knowledge check will be included at the end of each section. You’ll need to achieve a score of at least 75% to move on to the next part. This approach encourages continuous engagement and helps reinforce your understanding of the material.
